Surge was formed by Najaf, Feefs and Tipu in the summer
of 2002. All three had been playing music for quite
a while, but wanted a more formal and serious manifestation
of their love for music. Wasim Mirza offered space to
jam in and it was in his garage in F-6, Islamabad, that
Surge HQ was set up in mid 2002. The line up became:
Najaf - vocals, Feefu - Drums, Mirza - bass and Tipu
- Guitars. The band contemplated and hotly debated dozens
of names, but could not agree on any one name that expressed
what the band was about
When frustration had hit
its peak, in a moment of inspiration
Feefs came
up with "Surge"
and "Surge"
it became
After six months of jamming, Surge kicked
of with complete domination of the Rockers Night 2002
in Islamabad
Mirza left for Lahore in the summer
of 2004 and was replaced by the band's old friend, Sherry.
After performing several gigs in the federal capital,
Surge has built a strong regional following and they
were featured on IM's "On the Fringe" in March,
2005. The Surge sound fuses elements of classic rock,
thrash, prog, and nu_metal
but music is not about
genres, it is about expression
