Surge was formed by Najaf, Feefs and Tipu in the summer of 2002. All three had been playing music for quite a while, but wanted a more formal and serious manifestation of their love for music. Wasim Mirza offered space to jam in and it was in his garage in F-6, Islamabad, that Surge HQ was set up in mid 2002. The line up became: Najaf - vocals, Feefu - Drums, Mirza - bass and Tipu - Guitars. The band contemplated and hotly debated dozens of names, but could not agree on any one name that expressed what the band was about…When frustration had hit its peak, in a moment of inspiration…Feefs came up with "Surge"…and "Surge" it became… After six months of jamming, Surge kicked of with complete domination of the Rockers Night 2002 in Islamabad… Mirza left for Lahore in the summer of 2004 and was replaced by the band's old friend, Sherry.

After performing several gigs in the federal capital, Surge has built a strong regional following and they were featured on IM's "On the Fringe" in March, 2005. The Surge sound fuses elements of classic rock, thrash, prog, and nu_metal…but music is not about genres, it is about expression…
